”In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
- John Archibald Wheeler -
Shots from the wing are specific due to the smaller shooting angle which limits the attacker's possibilities and is most often defended by securing one part of the goal and defending the other. In the long run, the goalkeeper's ability to outplay the wing and the speed of reaction are crucial for efficiency.
The biomechanics of movement is very diverse and different goalkeepers have different styles of defense, and the differences are often invisible to the eye of the beholder.
In the first phase of learning, we direct Emil towards mastering the basic positioning technique in order to cover as much of the goal as possible, offering the first or second corner and defending what he has offered. In the beginning, it is covering the closer corner with a good body position and defending the other, and in the long run, it is extremely important to know how to offer and defend in both directions.
When a player shoots from the wing he performs:
- Jump and flight
- Shot
From the goalkeeper's perspective, this results in:
- Positioning and flight tracking
- Reaction (movement)
Without good positioning and flight tracking Emil will find it difficult to be successful in wing shot saving and that is why it is important to timely starting with learning and not just practice the movements.
