”In the slow motion we all see that these two goalies are not performing well the movement of stopping the low shot.

It’s easy.

It is difficult to see why this is so.

1. TESTING

We measured more than 70 female and male goalkeepers from 10 years to senior age, from amateur level to national team players.

We concluded that the basis for the development program should be objective parameters because the development of deficient skills is a prerequisite for improving the performance of goalkeeping techniques.

It is good when we respect the facts, not just the tradition, tactics, and our coaching experience when we choose future goalkeepers and decide which one between “Croatian style” or “Scandinavian style” of saving they will learn.

2. COMPARISON OF TESTING RESULTS AND GOALKEEPING PERFORMANCE

” At one point, the load on the foot is 3G when stoping a low shot by “Croatian style”.

In addition to absorbing such a force, the goalkeeper bends over to stop the ball with his hand if it does not go into the foot area.

If there is not enough strong muscle group around the spine, hips, and knees that are tightened and relaxed in harmony, the goalkeeper creates compensatory patterns or cannot perform the desired movement correctly.”

– Krešimir Šoš –

“If the goalie, due to insufficiently developed abilities, cannot perform the movement correctly, the quality of the movement decreases,

and they develops compensations over time and can thus be partially successful, but it creates the preconditions for deteriorating health and in the long run the automation of such performance becomes a limiting factor in realizing their potential. ”

3. CREATING A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIMITING ABILITIES

When we know what is the limiting ability due to which the range of motion is reduced, we create a targeted developmental training program.

If the goalkeeper has a limited range of motion due to reduced mobility or flexibility, increasing strength will not significantly improve performance, and persistent repetition increases the chance of deteriorating health.
