“The player knows how to pass the ball.”

What does this sentence mean?

It has a different meaning for each coach and each age group.

We decided to “standardize” the meaning of this word for different age groups and therefore created training content according to the principle of the test is practice and practice is a test so that coaches in our system would not have any doubts about what children of a certain age are capable of and which exercises are used for this development.

The first criterion is: the distance to which Damir can pass the ball. Anyone can pass the ball close and this cannot be a criterion for assessing passing ability. The larger the distance Damir can pass the ball, the greater his passing ability.

The second criterion is: whether he can pass the ball at that distance in situational, i.e. changing, conditions in which defenders cover him. If Damir can pass the ball only when no one covers him, he cannot play handball successfully and it is not rational to conclude that he “knows how to pass the ball” just because he has mastered the biomechanics of throwing the ball.

The third criterion is: movement. If Damir can pass the ball only while standing to a teammate who is standing, we can perhaps say that he knows how to throw the ball, but to conclude that he knows how to catch and pass it, he must do so while both he and the teammate to whom he passes the ball are moving.

The fourth criterion is: precision. If Damir throws “balloons” or cannot hit a teammate, we do not conclude that he knows how to pass the ball. He knows how to pass the ball when he can direct it so that the teammate can easily catch it, and the ball flies at an appropriate speed, i.e. he does not throw “balloons”.

The game “Out of the Box” puts players in a situation where they cannot be successful if they do not meet the listed criteria, and therefore we use it to learn how to catch and pass the ball, and at the same time as a test.

The rules of the game are the same for all generations, from mini handball to seniors, only the parameters are adjusted to the abilities of each generation.
